Multi-Material Recycle Depot  - 1101 North Railway St. W. 

The City's Recycling Depot is provided for residents of the City of Swift Current, and is included in your utility bill's Solid Waste Fees. The Depot is a fully-monitored site located at 1101 N. Railway St. W. and is for RESIDENTIAL use only (not for commercial entities). 

Summer hours:Typically begin in April each year
Tuesdays and Thursdays OPEN LATE and open all weekend! 
Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays – 9:30 am to 5:30 pm
Tuesdays/Thursdays – 9:30 am to 7:30 pm
Saturdays/Sundays – 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Closed on all STAT holidays

Winter hours: In effect November 5, 2025

Monday 9:30 am to 5:30 pm
Tuesday 9:30 am to 5:30 pm
Wednesday 9:30 am to 5:30 pm
Thursday 9:30 am to 7:30 pm
Friday 9:30 am to 5:30 pm
Saturdays 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Closed on all Sundays, Statutory Holidays and Easter Monday.

Materials accepted at the depot 

  • Tin Cans (rinsed)
  • Newspaper, Office Paper
  • Magazines and Telephone Books
  • Box Board and Corrugated Cardboard 
  • Plastics - these are separated into two groups:
    #2 plastic containers together, and;
    Certain acceptable #1, #3, #4, #5, #7's plastics together.  *Acceptable #1 plastic examples are cleaned ketchup, mustard, and salad dressing bottles.
    Plastics must be cleaned with caps/lids removed (see next bullet). Clean milk jugs should be taken to SARCAN for a deposit refund. 
  • Some caps/lids can be recycled as well, if they are labeled #1 through #5, or #7 plastic. (Plastic #6 is excluded)
  • Batteries - household batteries and automotive (single use & rechargeable) 
  • Wet Cell (non-recyclable) batteries (including car batteries)
  • Cereal boxes, non perishable food boxes (considered boxboard, deposit with cardboard)

What about those new items that SARCAN (995 Cheadle St. W.) will accept? 

  • Non-deposit glass is accepted only at SARCAN. This includes food containers such as jam, pickles, olives, etc. (must be empty, rinsed with caps/lids removed).
  • Flexible plastics are accepted only at SARCAN. This includes plastic bags, overwrap, crinkly wrappers, and others. Items must be clean/rinsed.
  • Foam packaging is accepted only at SARCAN. This includes foam packaging for electronics, take out containers, foam egg cartons, and more. (Food containers must be rinsed).
  • For "What is this symbol?" questions, go to www.how2recycle.info (a resource from the U.S.) but...
  • Here in Canada, chip bags & other items with this symbol are accepted only at SARCAN Recycle or Not

 

Note the following materials that ARE NOT accepted at the depot: 

  • used tissues or paper towels of any kind
  • soiled cardboard (this includes used pizza boxes/food containers or coffee cups because they are contaminated)
  • waxed cardboard
  • clamshell food containers such as fruit, salad, and muffin/pastry containers, even if marked #1
  • soft drink/pop and beverage lids, even if marked with #1 through #7
  • five-gallon pails, even if marked with #1 through #7
  • plastic sporting goods equipment, toys, etc. even if marked with #1 through #7
  • plastic #6
  • hard plastics without a number
  • drinking glasses or dishes, or cookware
  • whole or broken window glass or mirrors
  • ceramic products, dishes or cookware
  • light bulbs & light fixtures
  • deposit glass that can be returned to SARCAN for deposit refund
  • garbage bags
  • plastic squeeze tubes
  • plastic lined paper
  • crinkly wrap for tea or floral arrangements
  • 6-pack rings
  • vinyl biodegradable plastic
  • agriculture & industrial plastics
  • liquid absorbing pads used in trays for meat, poultry, fish, etc.
  • labels, tape, paper and cardboard on foam packaging
  • foam peanuts and packing chips
  • foam insulation
  • napkins or cutlery
  • protective/squishy cushion packaging
  • foam noodles
  • furniture cushions
  • or other listed items at the depot. 

Materials from the Recycle Depot are weighed at the landfill weigh scale before being trucked to the Triways yard for processing. These recyclable materials are not being landfilled.
