SWIFT CURRENT, SK - Preliminary satellite imaging reports indicate that the City will likely experience above-average run-off this season. While this suggests an increased volume of water flow in the Swift Current Creek, officials stress that this does not automatically indicate that the community will face flooding. A critical factor in determining outcomes will be the weather conditions throughout March, including temperatures and other environmental variables.
"We are closely monitoring these developments and are hopeful that the current trend will continue over the coming weeks, which is working in our favour right now," said Chief Hunter. "We want residents to know that we are taking a proactive approach to being as prepared as possible for any scenario and have the resources in place to safeguard our community. We are dedicated to making thoughtful and informed decisions to protect our City and its residents."
Swift Current is committed to a comprehensive, multi-faceted preparedness plan, in line with the City's strategic vision of being "In Good Hands." High water barriers will be installed around neighbourhoods that are at the most risk over the next few weeks to reduce the potential impact of any rising water. Additionally, roadways will remain open, with the ability to close the gaps quickly and efficiently if necessary.
"This level of preparedness is part of our ongoing commitment to responsibility, transparency, and being accountable to the people we serve," Chief Hunter continued.
The City's emergency management team is actively coordinating with local agencies to ensure a timely response to any changes in weather conditions and will provide ongoing updates to our community. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and follow the City's social media for updates on the latest initiative-taking safety measures.
