For Immediate Release

SWIFT CURRENT, SK - As we are now experiencing some warming temperatures, the City of Swift Current is advising residents to exercise caution around the Swift Current Creek and any other waterways due to unstable ice and faster flowing frigid water.
“Every year, it’s worth the reminder to our community. Ice conditions can change rapidly and unpredictably,” says Swift Current Fire Department Chief Hunter. “And with the series of warm weather days that we are now experiencing, what may appear stable could give way without warning. We urge all residents to keep a safe distance from bodies of water and ensure children and pets are kept a safe distance from the creek.”
Residents are advised to:
- Keep a safe distance from the creek and avoid walking on ice
- Supervise children and educate them on the dangers of thin ice
- Keep pets on a leash and prevent them from approaching the water
- Be aware of any rising water levels and potential flooding as the creek ice breaks up
- Report any hazardous conditions or concerns to local authorities
Community safety remains a top priority. The City is working closely with the Water Security Agency (WSA) to monitor and report on Duncairn Dam and Swift Current Creek conditions as they evolve over the coming weeks. Updates will be provided as water levels change to keep our residents informed and prepared. Residents are encouraged to stay updated through official City communication channels and local media.
