Event Schedule and Details Announced

Swift Current, SK - A media event was held to announce the details for the 2019 Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada set to take place in Swift Current from February 6-9. The national live broadcast of the 19th annual edition of the hockey celebration will take place on Saturday, February 9, 2019 from beautiful Riverdene Park along the Swift Current Creek.

“The City of Swift Current is honoured to be hosting the 19th annual Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada in February of 2019,” says Robin Wall, Chair of the Local Organizing Committee. “Along with Sportsnet and Scotiabank, the Local Organizing Committee is looking forward to the four day event that will feature events for all ages as we celebrate the game that means so much to our Southwest Saskatchewan communities. We look forward to showcasing our community through the stories that will be told, through the people and organizations that will be attending, sponsoring, playing, and volunteering throughout this event.”

“Sportsnet is thrilled to bring this year's edition of Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada to Swift Current to celebrate the game with NHL alumni, Sportsnet personalities and many special family-friendly events over the four days,” says Joel Darling, Executive Producer of NHL Special Events for Sportsnet. “Our theme for our national broadcast is courage and we will tell stories from Swift Current and across the country about how courage and hockey are so closely linked.”

Leading up to Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada, a full schedule of hockey activities is planned for everyone to take part in celebrating the community’s hockey history and the nation’s most loved pastime. Thursday, February 7 will be jam-packed with school visits, hockey clinics, the opening ceremonies and first game to be played in the Sheldon Kennedy Youth Outdoor Classic, presented by Scotiabank and the official event banquet. Friday opens with the NHL® Declaration of Principles Breakfast event with Stanley Cup® winner Andrew Ference and the Stanley Cup®, more school visits, hockey clinics and wraps up with a cabaret.

On Saturday morning, Sportsnet’s Ron MacLean brings Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada to the country live from Swift Current’s Riverdene Park.  The broadcast will feature local hockey stories throughout the day. Riverdene Park will be animated with activities, skaters, hockey games and fun for hockey fans of all ages.

The celebration will conclude with the WHL game between the Swift Current Broncos and Saskatoon Blades and will include a live broadcast of Coach’s Corner with Don Cherry and Ron MacLean from the arena. Sportsnet will be broadcasting live NHL® games featuring all seven Canadian teams to keep the event going.

Throughout the hockey celebration, there will be fun free hockey festivities at Riverdene Park, viewing of both the Stanley Cup® and Memorial Cup, skating on the outdoor rinks and a variety of hockey merchandise will be for sale. Hockey fans will see former hockey greats including, Lanny McDonald, Darcy Tucker, Cassie Campbell-Pascall, Wendel Clark, Chris Neil, Chris Phillips, Glenn Healy and many more at the various planned events.

The schedule will also include six ticketed events: Alumni and Celebrity Hockey Classic, Music of Hockey Day hosted by Ron MacLean, the Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada Banquet, NHL® Declaration of Principles Breakfast with Andrew Ference and the Stanley Cup, a Cabaret and a Broncos game. Tickets can be purchased at City Hall, Swift Current Pharmasave or the Stable.
