Parks Play Program

Join in on all the FUN at the Parks Play Program this summer!

The Recreation and Parks Department would like to welcome all participants to the Parks Play Program Summer of 2010! Our program is designed for children aged 5 – 12 and aims to keep its participants active and entertained through games, crafts, sports, stories, and various presentations and special events throughout six weeks of the summer. Programs begin with a Planet Party theme week to celebrate planet earth and encourage a “greener” lifestyle. This week we will keep busy with special reused, reduced, and recycled craft making, planting and gardening, learning about – and meeting – some of our planet’s animals and critters, and of course, your own planet party with juice and chips to snack on! Make sure to see our program calendar for our special events this week and throughout the summer.

The Parks Play Program takes place at five of Swift Current’s beautiful parks. This program operates weekdays (Monday to Friday) beginning July 5th, 2010 through August 13th, 2010  in both the morning and afternoon at the following parks:

Mornings (8:30 AM – 12:00 PM)

Afternoons (1:00 PM – 4:30 PM)

You will be sure to enjoy summer alongside our playful leaders and everything we have in store for you! There is one Play Leader in each park during the morning, and two Play Leaders in each of the afternoon parks. These individuals incorporate a variety of fun and exciting activities into different theme weeks in order to help children develop their social skills, encourage the use of imagination, and ensure a fun, safe, educational, and active summer in their community. This year, they will be sporting red leader t-shirts; if these catch your eye during a visit to the park, be sure to go join them for some fun!

All of our programs are continued to be offered at no cost to participants, as they are operate on a drop-in, non-profit basis and are largely supported by community involvement and funding from various businesses. This means that all of our programs are completely free for its participants and you chose when you want to/can come participate! All children will be encouraged to participate with the program while activities are being offered in the parks; however, the focus and attention of the Play Leaders will be on the participants involved in these structured activities.

Play Leaders will be available during program hours to assist any child in distress (e.g.: in need of medical attention) and, above all, to maintain a safe play environment in their parks to the best of their ability. Play Leaders are not to, nor will, be accountable for children coming and leaving the park. We strongly encourage you to please ensure your child knows when and where they should go if they want to leave the park.

Be sure to check out the Parks Play Program and take in all of the fun and excitement we have in store for the summer!
