Paid-On-Call firefighters are essentially volunteer firefighters who receive pay only for the time they spend training or responding to incidents. Paid-on-call firefighters do not require any previous training or experience.  All required training will be provided by the fire department. However, there is an expectation that members will attend training and incidents and that they will complete all training required to become certified by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC).

Paid-on-call firefighters are paid $17.50/hr for recruits and $20.50/hr for certified IFSAC firefighters. There is also a monthly retainer based on attendance and availability for training and incidents. It ranges from $150 to $250 based on years of service.

The minimum requirements to apply for a paid-on-call firefighter position are:

1. 18 years of age.
2. Legally employable in Canada.
3. Driver licence with a clean driving abstract.
4. Criminal Record check with the Vulnerable Sector check.
