Bike Safety Week – Ready to Ride!

Saskatchewan Prevention Institute has declared Bicycle Safety Week to be held May 16-22, 2021. The theme is “Ready to Ride!” Cycling is a great form of transportation and recreation for every age group and promotes improved health, physical activity, and is a great way to be social and have fun. However, cycling is an activity that requires specific skills and behaviours to reduce one’s risk of injury, and young cyclists need to be taught these safety practices. Bike Safety Week is a great time to review and educate our children and the community about the importance of safe cycling for all.

After watching this video, it's time to practice your skills! Head out along the Chinook Parkway or to one of the five bike courses at the outdoor rinks: Southside, Riverdene, ACT, Westside, or Highland. You are “READY TO RIDE!”

During the week of May 16 – 22, post a photo or video of your child practicing bike safety such as wearing a helmet properly, using correct hand signals, or following the rules of the road when biking.  Post your photo or video to the City of Swift Current’s Facebook or on Twitter @City_SC.  Please make sure that your post is viewable to the public.  By entering this contest, you will have a chance to win one of the following great prizes:

  • A brand-new bike donated by Swift Current Canadian Tire
  • A free bike inspection at Pedal Works
  • A great bike helmet

Thanks to our generous prize sponsors and to our funding sponsor Kiwanis Club of Swift Current!
