AGSC History:
The AGSC has provided public access to visual art for southwest Saskatchewan since its opening in 1974. It originally opened as the Swift Current National Exhibition Centre, one of three N.E.C.’s across Saskatchewan. In 1996 the City of Swift Current supported a new strategic plan, and in 1997 the gallery name was changed to Art Gallery of Swift Current to better reflect its association with the city and the community it served.
Core services offered by the AGSC include a program of exhibitions and interpretative services including tours, artist talks, publications, and media production. A studio education program was introduced in 1995 and expanded in 2018 with the addition of the AGSC Learning Centre. The AGSC has invested significant resources to create and sustain diverse, educational public programs and has become a vital catalyst for cultural development for Swift Current and southwest Saskatchewan.
AGSC is situated on Treaty 4 territory, the ancestral lands of the Cree, Anishinabek, Dakota, Nakota, and Lakota Nations and the homelands of the Métis people.
Art Gallery of Swift Current gratefully acknowledges the support of the City of Swift Current, Swift Current Arts Council, SK Arts, SaskCulture, Sask Lotteries, Service Canada and Canadian Heritage.
